R.I.P Lyn Collins

Yes, sad but true....the soul/funk legend Lyn Collins passed away this past weekend. Lyn was deemed 'The Female Preacher' and was a member of James Brown's Funky People in the 1970s. Ya'll might have heard her song "Think" (1972), which was sampled in "It Takes Two" by Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock in the 1980s.

In other music news, here's what I've been digging lately:

-M.I.A, Piracy Funds Terrorism & Arular.Arular is getting released next Tuesday. BUY IT. By now I'm sure everyone has read about M.I.A....I mean 'Arular' is the most hyped about album of the year thus far. People are wetting their pants over this girl. I am too. LOVE IT.
-The Go! Team, Thunder, Lightning, Strike. They're from the UK. They mix old skool clips, sound snippets, hip hop and randomness from the 1960s and 1970s. If you like the Avalanches, TV Land comedies, nostalgia..The Go! Team is for you. (I LOVE the song "Bottle Rocket")
-Robbers on High Street, Tree City. They're kind of like Spoon-lite, or Diet Spoon. They're from Brooklyn...I do believe. I saw them open up for a friend of mine last fall and they are great guys as well as a fun, harmless band.
-Stars, Set Yourself on fire. I heard this cd for the first time about a month ago....I was going on two hours of sleep and totally hung over on a Sunday morning with a new friend of mine. It definitely improved my mood. Stars are a part of the "Canadian Invasion" (Dears, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Stills, etc) and play cutesy, happy, unassuming pop romanticism and loveliness.
-Beck, Guero. Ahh Beck. The new album comes out next week or the week after, I can't remember. I heard it a few weeks ago. Very different from the last one. Very funky (but not in-your-face funk as much as "Midnite Vultures"). And he's using the production talents of the Dust Brothers. LOVE THEM.
