Summer Music

All I've been doing recently is writing term papers and listening to a lot of music. Here's what I currently think is worth listening to:

Beauty and the Beat- Edan
This cd features some hot samples from the 60s, 70s, and 80s (including a menacing tune that samples Pink Floyd's 'On the Run'), and Edan's rhymes are a tribute to his idols and himself, but done tongue in cheek. Tres fabulous, very interesting indeed.

The Sunlandic Twins- Of Montreal
My previous experience with 'Of Montreal' is merely two songs someone put on a mixtape for me, so I'm not sure how this album stacks up their previous efforts. Nevertheless, I've decided this cd is made for summer 2005..riding around in the car on a 85 degree day with the windows down. Oh yes. The album is very twee and cute with nice harmonies and a 60s vibe a la The Left Banke or Spanky and Our Gang, if those bands had dropped the harpsichord and taken up drum machines and synths instead (if they would have had those instruments back in 1965). It makes me want to go to the beach and make sand castles and eat ice cream with some cute guy. Charming.

Let It Be- The Replacements
Ahhh, the Replacements...an old college-rock staple from the 80s. I was a wee thing in the 80s and just recently found a love for the Replacements. I remember a drummer in some band telling me once that this album "will change your life." Well, not quite...but it's rather good, and I've found it really helps me write papers. A few of the cuts are definitely worth skipping over, but on most the songwriting is top notch (yay, Paul Westerberg) and quite catchy. ROCKANDROLL.

Now it's your turn to recommend albums for me!

here are a couple of things that you might not know but rock :
- the Libertines, the 2 albums (up the bracket & the Libertines)
- Tostaky, by Noir Désir (a french group from the 1990s-2000s, doesn't exist anymore since the leader is in jail in Lithuania because he killed his girlfriend, a french actress) - apart from that, good rock band, the language shouldn't be a problem for you since even the french don't understand the lyrics :)
- Telephone (1980s)
- Rita Mitsouko (1980s) weird and very funny

Oooh, I dig the Libertines.

I'll have to check out that french group. I actually really love french music...Tahiti 80 (well, they sing in english...but still), MC Solaar, Edith Piaf, etc.

What does Telephone sound like?
